...to same day restorative treatment...now that I can do it anesthesia free!
I'm a firm believer in the fact that many opportunities exist in our practices to increase revenue in any given hour or day. If you are like me, your schedule looks nothing like it did at the beginning of the day when it was discussed at the morning business meeting.
We have all of the following issues that affect our schedule:
Appointments that finished early
Appointments that finished late
Patients showing up early for appointments
All of these issues generally result in free appointment slots...or opportunity. When this happens, our hygiene team is trained to look for simple restorative and soft tissue procedures that we can get done on the same day.
For our practice, money was almost never the problem when it came to doing same day restorative treatment. Also, I could get most patients out the door in 15-20 minutes if I hurried. But, patients only agreed to same day treatment about 50% of the time! Why?
I was able to make the same day restorative (or soft tissue) experience even more appealing. I took away the shot(and the fear that goes with it) and feeling of a swollen lip. Suddenly, my same day case acceptance jumped to nearly 100%. I can't remember the last patient that rescheduled for a later date.
As it turns out, a majority of patients simply didn't want local anesthesia interfering with the rest of their day. THAT WAS PREVENTING THEM FROM SAME DAY TREATMENT. Not money or time! They had plans to eat lunch or attend meetings later and a swollen lip was a problem they didn't want to deal with that day.
